LSB Compliance RPM
Hi,
I'm running Slackware with a Ver 2.4.31 kernel. I'm hoping to use a Dialogic speech board (D/4PCIU). The drivers for the board are Intel Dialogic System Release 6.1 for Linux.
The problem I've run into installing the drivers is a message that says "The LSB compliance RPM for your Operating System Distribution is not installed." and "Intel Dialogic software requires an LSB-Compliant distribution."
I've done some googling and find that it seems the question of Slackware's LSB compliance is open for debate. (at least according to some...)
I'd rather not switch Linux distributions, but I've had a very difficult time finding a "good" speech board to interface the "intrusion reporting system" I'm working on to the Public Telephone Switched Network. And I've spent significant $'s on the board and drivers.
I would appreciate any help.
Ray

Don't use RPMs directly, convert using rpm2tgz first (if I'm interpreting that message correctly). The software will probably work fine, uninstall the package if it doesn't. LSB is no Holy Grail, and RPMs do work despite RedHat's odd file placement.

tuxdev,
Thanks for your response. I'm off to see what I can do with rpm2tgz.
By the way, I'm obviously new to the forum... was your Newbie note to me specifically about something I did or didn't do, or is the Newbie note a general thing?
Thanks again,
Ray

It's in my signature. So, yeah, it is general thing. It applies somewhat less for this particular forum because I can relatively safely assume the OP is using Slackware.
There's a Bruce Hill on these forums. Probably unrelated.

Don't know a Bruce in the family, but could be.
Thanks again for the info...even the general stuff for Newbies that will help me post better info.
