low volume issue
After I installed my new kernel(2.6) I have been having some sound issues. I have sound but it is very low volume, I can hear it but I have to turn my speakers all the way up. My sound was fine when I was using kernel 2.4. But now, when I access the volume controls it says this:
Sorry, no mixer elements and/or devices found
I'm guessing that I had neglected to compile alsa properly as when I do alsaconf I get this:
No supported PnP or PCI cards found
Info Center says:
Sound:
Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v1.0.8 emulation code)
installed drivers:
Type 10:ALSA emulation
Card config:
--- no soundcards ---
Audio, Synth and Midi devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG
Timers:
7: system timer
Mixers: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG
infocenter recognizes my sound card:
PCI:
00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp 82801A/BAM AC'97 Audio (rev 05)
blah blah
when I boot up, it says the following:
/usr/sbin/alsactl: load_state:1134: No Sound Card Found
Loading OSS compatibility modules for alsa
FATAL: Module snd_pcm_oss snd_mixer_oss not found
So to my question, is it as simple as just installing alsa or what should I do?
EDIT:
lsmod says:
8139too 20704 0
ide_scsi 13636 0
