Lot of insmod errors during boot

I'm on slack9. There are a lot of 'insmod failed' messages during the startup. Here is an example:
Code:
insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/net/8139cp.o.gz failed
insmod 8139cp failed
init_module: no such device
..may be caused due to incorre invalidct module parameters including IO or IRQ parameters..
This is repeated around 30 times. All of my hardware is working properly. This is a module for my ethernet adapter (lan card). $ lsmod shows me that the module 8139too is loaded. I searched the /etc/rc.d/rc.modules file, but couldn't find any entries for 8139cp.
I repeat again: all of my hardware is working, and this errors are very strange. Any ideas for solution?

When did this start occuring, after fresh install, after kernel recompile, etc? This is common after a kernel recompile in most cases where you didn't compile or you might have missed a step during compilation, etc.

as root edit /etc/hotplug/blacklist and add:

8139cp

Save it and next reboot you won't have those insmod errors anymore. I had the same problem with my realtek. Hotplug apparently tries to load them both.

Yes! That is! Thanks a lot!

PP. It started after fresh install.. I've seen it on other machines running slack 9 too, so I think that is a slack fault.

this is kinda harmless complain from insmod. I get it pretty often. Especially after I compiled a pure monolithic kernel (no modules). Just remember to switch of rc.modules and rc.netdevices in rc.M or rc.S I am not sure hehehehe
