2.2.8a....yes I too notice multiple nbmd processes running, why is that?
I still am unable to acces my folders...I can now see the test folder I created and a log on box apprears w/a greyed out "Server/guest". No passwords will work. For my main share foler I now get a "the specified network password is incorrect". I am unable to retype a pw.

I got sick of dealing with all of that mess so I just mapped the shares by IP rather than surf by name
if you get an error in samba, try going into your XP box and typing the ipaddress insted of the share name and map it. make sure you use backslashes or it will hit apache instead.
For instance. on my win2k box I type \\192.168.0.4 and it brings up a list of my shares on Slackware. In truth, I have never been able to see the share by name unless I use the IP address. I then just right click on the proper folder and choose map drive. It now maps in everytime I start windows.
Try it from your linux box as well. In Nautilus or Konquerer type
smb://(ipaddress) mine is smb://192.168.0.4
and it should also show the shared home folders.
good luck!

heh,,,,I hear you bud...ya that worked. What I did find was, even tho I was configuring the smb.cnfg thru Swat, I would restart the processes but it wasnt killing the orignal processes so I had multiple smb or nmbd running...once I killed those w/a kill -9, then I restarted the services, things started working. Still unable to access thru Network places but im close.....
later
