Losing my alsamixer settings after a reboot

Most of my things are back to mute after I reboot and do an "alsamixer". I thought to save your settings you run alsactl store. Is this not what you do after running alsamixer?

Yes alsactl store should save it. If you're using KDE goto Control Panel, Audio Settings (or something like that...) and disable to load the sound levels at kde startup (they override the ones set by alsactl).

EDIT: You didn't specify if you did it, but you must run "alsactl store" as root.

I thought I have done an alsactl store before only to lose my settings. Hmm.. maybe not. I use GNOME by the way.

I don't understand this, you ran alsactl store BEFORE alsamixer?
The correct way to do this is:
alsamixer
su
alsactl store
exit

I dunno if GNOME has the same "feature" as KDE to save you sound settings overriding the ones that alsa has.

No, I ran it after. :) Sorry if I wasn't clear.
