Logitech webcam?

Hi all,

I have googled this, but most of the information seems pretty old and not very clear and/or distribution-specific.

I'm trying to get a Logitech quickcam working with Slack 11 (2.6.17). When I plug it in, it registers and loads up pwc and related modules, but when I try eg. xawtv I just get a blank screen. v4l-conf gives the error: no overlay support.

Does anyone have one of these working and can suggest what to do. I'm happy to post all the messages if it will help.

Brian

I've got a Logitech quickcam express, and I was looking to get it working on my box too. Although I haven't yet tried, it seems this page has information on a number of logitech webcam models:

Always worth checking the HCL here at LQ

Let me know how it goes. I've had the webcam working in the past (don't remember which kernel I was on at the time).

When I plugged it in to my computer a few days ago I was very happy to see it instantly registered and drivers and modules loaded. So I was disappointed when I got the blank screen and the overlay messages. All the posts I've seen with similar problems are quite old and don't seem entirely relevant, but maybe I am mis-reading them.

I've noticed the pwc included in the kernel doesn't work as well as this driver. I'm not sure what the differences are between what is in the kernl and what is on the Saillard site, but the kernel version doesn't seem as capable.

Thanks a lot, Hangdog42!

I still get the "no overlay support" message, but I do get a webcam picture.

Cheers,
Brian
