Loading OSS compatibility modules for ALSA

Okay:

I just recently installed Slackware on my Dads Dell Inspiron 1501 and I wanted to compile a kernel for it. The short is all worked fine and everything went through except for a sound issue that emerged.

When I run aslaconf and go through the steps the sound works, however, when ever I reboot I get the error below and sound does not work. If I re-run alsaconf it works agian. By this I hope you see the loop I am in.

I am out of ideas and places to look, any help would be great!!

Code:
Loading OSS compatibility modules for ALSA.
Loading ALSA mixer settings: /usr/sbin/alsactl restore
/usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:989: warning: name mismatch (Master Playback Volume/Speaker Playback Switch) for control
#1
/usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:991: warning: index mismatch (0/0) for control #1
/usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:993: failed to obtain info for control #1 (No such device or address)
