Unhappy lm_sensors

Has anyone successfull installed lm_sensors "http://secure.netroedge.com/~lm78/" in Slackware
I'm trying to get working GKrellm's plugin for temp + fan speed monitoring.

- I can't compile lm_sensors-1.4.12 in Slack-9.0, due to the following error:
kernel/busses/i2c-amd8111.c:426: `I2C_HW_SMBUS_AMD8111' undeclared (first use in this function)
make: *** [kernel/busses/i2c-amd8111.o] Error 1

- and yes I did read the README and noticed the following line:
!!! THIS PACKAGE REQUIRES i2c-2.7.0 or later!!!
+
WARNING! You must get the latest i2c package, i2c-2.7.0,
EVEN IF your kernel does contain i2c support!!!!!!!!!

- so I tried patching the slack 9.0 kernal (2.4.20) with patch -p0 -s < patch-2.4.21-pre7, and here I got wornings that I was about to downgread my kernel ... huh ... so is the kernel already pre patched in Slack9? .. or am I patching incorectly?

erm, not that i have tried this but i2c is an option in the kernel configuration when compiling a kernel. Since this is an option in the slack kernel, if you try to patch it with an older version of the code it will complain. I have a feeling that that patch was around before the i2c code was put in the kernel proper.

Not sure if that is a correct explanation but it sounds good to me.

I'm afraid I can't tell you how to get lm_sensors working but you may need to look into recompiling the kernel with the i2c support compiled in there.

Alex

P.S. sorry if that is no help what so ever

Thank you all for such prompt reply ... in the mean time I've installed lm_sensors-2.6.5 ... sucessfully ... just to find my chips are not supported yet ... ahh well ... but at least they appear on the list of "NEW AND REQUESTED BUS DRIVERS"
