linux networking

I'm having a slight problem with my netork. Everything works fine except when I try to send email in-network it always tries to go out through the internet first and hunt down the recipient there. Causing it to bounce. I have all the in network addresses and names in /etc/hosts such as;

192.168.1.1 computer.one
192.168.1.2 computer.two

and so on.

Why is the mail going out to the internet connection instead??

Thanks

What are the default gateways set to? Which machine(s) are running an MTA?
Also maybe the output from "ifconfig -a" might help...

It sounds like your mail client is sending the mail via the wrong server (ie. not sending via it sendmail). If it is your isp bouncing the mail this is the problem, unless you have reconfigured sendmail.
