Linux image takes ages to load. Sony Vaio VGN-sz2xrp

Hi all.

I've recently installed Slackware 12.1 on Sony vaio VGN-SZ2XRP.
One of the main problems I found was that it takes ages (around 15-20) seconds to load the linux image after I choose what kernel to load from LILO, to the moment when "BIOS check Successful" message appears.
Just to compare, it takes less than a second on my 6-years-old Fujitsu-siemens amilo d =))

It looks like this check takes a couple seconds less time if I load custom kernel, which is a bit smaller than huge-smp, but still, the loading time is Really long.

Does anybody have any ideas if it is possible to deal with this problem?

Thanks.

You could try adding the 'compact' option to /etc/lilo.conf and subsequently running `/sbin/lilo` as root to write the changes to the MBR. See `man lilo.conf` for more information.

That worked thanks!
It loads immediately now. does it have any negative effect on the bios check?

Now the only two things that are slowing the boot down are
Triggering udev events: /sbin/udevtrigger --retry-failed
and the DHCP deamon (if the network cable is not connected).
But I couldn't find any ways of dealing with those two=) I guess i'll have to live with it=)
