Linux based PLC programming software?

I am beginning to play with PLC programming at work. I recently was given some information regarding a side job that could benefit from using a small PLC. Is there anyone who has programmed PLC's from Linux? There are some articles about machines that run Linux, and some poorly documented links to what look like programming libraries for PLC's. I'm looking for software that will let me program ladder logic. I won't be looking for software to control the PLC from a PC (like wonderware), just the ladder logic programming software. I have not purchased a PLC yet as it's probably going to depend on what software is available.

Thanks,
Eric
