Linksys router problems

I finally got Slackware up and running, I got my Broadcom wireless card working with b43-fwcutter. Now I plugged my computer into my Linksys router to connect to my network, but Kwifimanager keeps saying that I am out of range of the router. I can't find anything on the web that solves a problem could somebody please help me with this.

Hi,

If you are using the Ethernet connection do you have that device configured in the '/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf'? The first Eth device is 'eth0'.

Code:
sample of eth0 in '/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf';

# Config information for eth0:
IPADDR[0]="192.168.1.13"
NETMASK[0]="255.255.255.0"
#USE_DHCP[0]=""
#DHCP_HOSTNAME[0]=""

# Config information for eth1:
#IPADDR[1]=""
#NETMASK[1]=""
#USE_DHCP[1]=""
#DHCP_HOSTNAME[1]=""

I wouldn't try to use KWiFiManager -- Slackware's configuration is really set up to be done from the terminal, and the presence of KWiFiManager is really just there because it came with KDE. It is not set up to properly handle things the 'Slackware way'. If you want to configure a wired connection, run `netconfig` as root. If you want to configure a wireless connection, read Alien Bob's guide. If you want a graphical solution, you could install wicd (a SlackBuild is available at slackbuilds.org or a prebuilt package from rworkman's repository). Note that if you do decide to use wicd, you CANNOT use rc.inet1.conf (or any other script in /etc/rc.d/) to configure your wireless networks -- wicd would conflict with the configuration. wicd would be the easy, graphical solution if that's what you're looking for.

Hi,

Please post your solution so the thread can be brought to a proper closure. That way if someone is searching and they find your thread there will be a solution.

for the b43 drivers I used these commands

Code:
wget http://bu3sch.de/b43/fwcutter/b43-fwcutter-011.tar.bz2
tar xjf b43-fwcutter-011.tar.bz2
cd b43-fwcutter-011
make
cd ..
Code:
export FIRMWARE_INSTALL_DIR="/lib/firmware"
wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/sources/broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0.tar.bz2
tar xjf broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0.tar.bz2
cd broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0/kmod
sudo ../../b43-fwcutter-011/b43-fwcutter -w "$FIRMWARE_INSTALL_DIR" wl_apsta.o
Then follow the instructions on this page http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...driver-675094/ on how to setup the wirless configuration I had to use wlan0 instead of eth0 skip the part about ndiswrapper if your drivers are allready working.

Open emacs, and open this file /etc/rc.d/rc.local and add this line dhcpcd wlan0 up. Then got to the terminal and type chmod -x /etc/rc.d/rc.local.

That will configure the ip address when the system boots up.
