Hi,
I have compiled 2.6.8.1 kernel and after some tweaking i had it working except my mouse wasn't worning under Xorg... I don't know why because my xorg.config is all right and kernel supports my mouse (IPS/2 ... usb Microsoft).
Do anybody know where is the problem?
And my second problem is this:
I have installed NFORCE drivers and since then when I reboot, my LILO says:
Loading Linux..........
and that's it. It hangs on eleventh dot. Why is that?
that is weird, what drivers did you install ? nvnet ? nvsound ? what is your motherboard ?
You have to load slackware from the 2nd cd, then use chroot and run lilo to reinstall it into MBR after check its config to see if it's correct, also you may want to add a second entry to boot with a stock kernel that works.
I had installed both, but I don't load nvsound module... just nvnet. My motherboard is ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe. It has got NIC Marvell Yokon Gigabit Ethernet card and nForce 2 100MBit Ethernet card integrated onboard...
my modprobe.conf looks like this: alias eth1 nvnet
--I have option in Lilo for booting old kernel. It works fine... also WindowsXP boots ok. It hangs just when loading linux 2.6.8.1 kernel
Oh, and an error occured while modprobing nvnet... I accidently give it eth0 name which was used by Marvell Yukon Gigabit card and it was some IRQ sharing problem (Kernel Panic). Followed by three-finger-salute and since then that weird LILO hangs...
It is in modprobe.conf... that ...lilo.conf... is another sentence
no, I don't know what is it and how can I set it? (sk98lin)
[EDIT]
Oh, now I see... I have Marvell Yukon Gigabit Ethernet integrated directly into kernel, so I guess I don't need sk98lin...
I just need NFORCE driver to install nvnet for second ethernet card because it seems it don't have support in kernel (kernel just didn't find it)
Or I don't know what chipset it uses...
sk98lin is the driver for Marvell Yukon Gigabit card, I have the same mobo and I connect to internet with this interface. More it work just fine without NForce driver, the module is in generic kernel config at gigabytes net card device drivers

It is generally better to compile drivers for net cards as modules, for kernel size reason and init scripts run well, they load modules into memory in proper order.
Otherwise why don't you use the Yukon card to connect to internet ?
Ok, thanks... I'll compile it as module. I need both cards. Yukon and that 100Mbit... one for connection to my Local Network and the other for internet... but I have only one of them installed... I don't know why the other isn't recognized.
What do you have set as module in .config to recognize that second card?
Recompile kernel with ethernet drivers as modules didn't work... I don't know what to do. I can boot now (I have uninstalled NFORCE drivers) but mouse still not working. I don't know what I'm doing wrong...
Can somebody please send me his/her working .config for kernel 2.6.8.1 ? (asus nforce2 chipset with 2 LAN (100Mbit+1GBit) and mouse USB Intellimouse Explorer... Thanks a lot.
