lilo / grub in MBR?

When I test installed slackware, it asked where I wanted to put the bootloader lilo / grub.

One of the options was in MBR but it said ('bad idea'). I selected MBR option anyway. I was just wondering why is it a bad idea to install lilo in the MBR??

Im going to do another install soon once I plan out partitions etc so I want to put lilo where it should be..

Its mainly not looked upon if you have other boot loaders there, etc. If your going to just have Slackware installed, etc, you shouldn't ever have any problems installing it there as I always install to the MBR when dealing with Linux, etc.

Yeah, what Trickykid said

I have done numerous single and dual boot linux installs and have always installed the boot loader to the mbr. This has never given me problems.

If previously, theres windows dual bootloader (say, win2k and winxp) installed, would installing lilo/grub to the MBR overwrites the one by windows?
