Hi there , i have three things i would like to ask about :
1- my Lilo has 3 entrances now (windows ; hda1 ; linux) after i tried to change font resolution from lilo manager (kde) how can i change that ? since the hda1 doesn't work at all .
2-while on Slackware install i choose the largest font available (sun 12x22 font) i tried it before with no problem , this time i get a message in the end :
Loading 256-character 12x22 font from file /usr/share/kbd/ConsoleFonts/sun12x22.psfu.gz
putfont : KDFONTOP : Invalid argument
loading ..... (some other font i guess)
why is this , and how can i change to the correct font ?
3- I finally started to dig mc and i found some hints :
-Have you plenty of RAM/virtual RAM ? Set the tar VFS memlimit to -1.
-Setting the CD PATH variable can save you keystrokes in cd commands
a) what are they ,are they general or mc specific hints ?
b) how can i enable mc to start on my icewm menu (i want it to start with xterm which enables mouse support)
1) Edit lilo.conf by hand, its in /etc/lilo.conf, remove the bad entry and re-run lilo. Lilo is good and safe these days in that if it doesn't like the syntax of your .conf file it doesn't get written, so don't fear fooling around with it by hand.
2) /usr/bin/fontconfig
Yeah, just one of those annoying little ones to find.
3) I dunno mc or XFCE worth a dink, sorry, I either go for KDE big and hulking or Fluxbox's lightweight lovin'.
Forgot to say , i did a make menuconfig and enabled sun 12x22 font and also real APM shutdown ( or something like it ) but nothing really changed after i make install . Is this what you call kernel compilling ? thanks again for your time .
Uhmmm... the console fonts and the kernel mapped fonts are two different families. The console fonts are just a library of fonts. Also, when you did a "make menuconfig", did you also then: make dep, make clean, make bzImage, make modules, make modules_install? Then copy System.map and arch/i386/boot/bzImage to /boot and edit lilo to boot your new kernel?
If not, check out the linux documentation project and read the kernel compiling how-to, its breif and straightforward.
I went to mc /usr/bin/fontconfig and the same install menu (nice) poped up asking if i wanted to change the font and did it but nothing happend . I got i different error message now :
when loading severall fonts , all must be psf fonts -/usr/share/kbd/consolefonts/s.fnt.gz isn't
------------------------------------------------------------------------
my /usr/bin/fontconfig file:
#!/bin/sh
COLOR="on"
export COLOR
sh /var/log/setup/setup.fontconfig
