Hi Slackers

I'm building a web map on-demand tiling server (Slack 13.1) using Mapnik and mod_tile, and I'm running into the well-documented issues of libtiff mismatch (GDAL, a middleware package in use, uses an internal copy of libtiff4 with BigTIFF support, but other parts of the system link against the distro-installed libtiff3, and a run-time warning is given). I've not run into any crashes or image problems, but I'd prefer to simply upgrade the distro copy of libtiff. Older posts like this one advise against it:

Anyone upgraded libtiff to v4 successfully?

tiff 4.0.2 is vulnerable to some overflows in tiff2pdf. While fixed in trunk, you might want to patch your version until a new version is released (see:

Thanks guys. I'll have a look at that patch.

In theory, no untrusted user-created content will be pushed through this system, nor am I creating pdf's, so it doesn't look like that bug will affect me. I appreciate the heads-up though.

linkage, tiff
