libstdc++.so.5

Trying to install the ifort compiler, and it runs into this dependency. It looks like this was a part of slackware 10, and when I dig up the package [cxxlibs-5 something, I think] and install it, it causes even more dependency issues.

Is there something obvious that I am missing?

I like ifort better than gcc fortran.

Slackware-current, as well as Slackware 12.2, has cxxlibs-6.0.9-i486-1 in slackware/a and among other files this installs /usr/i486-slackware-linux/lib/libstdc++.so.5.0.7 so I do not understand what you miss. libstdc++.so.5 is a symlink to it.

See http://packages.slackware.it/search....&t=1&q=libstdc

You even get libstdc++.so.4 with no additional cost
