LibreOffice Spell Check

All,

I'm not sure I should ask this on the Slackware forum. But I am trying to Install Eric's LibreOffice builds, which I got from the slackware web site, so I hope it's okay ask here.

Everything installs well, including the libreoffice-dict . . . and libreoffice-l10n . . . Packages.

But I can't see any of these dictionaries in Writer etc. I look in Options/Language Settings/Writing Aides but, again, I don't see any options for the dictionaries I've installed.

I know this is some dumb setting that any bonehead could find in 2 seconds. But alas, it's escaping me how to get spell check working. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi there,

go to "Tools" > "Options" > "Language settings" as you did, then:

1) "Writing aids":
> "User defined dictionaries"
>> add a new dictionary

2) "Languages":
> "Default language for documents"
>> choose your default language

Here you go. For the record, I'm not using Eric Hameleers' build, but the script from the Slackbuilds project maintained by Willy S. Raharjo, and I unpacked and installed the additional languages by hand.

Perhaps not. If you launch LibreOffice before installing a dictionary package, it will not work.

If this is your case, you can get the dictionary to show up by:
Close LibreOffice > Rename/remove .config/libreoffice > Restart

I have some alternate solutions that Eric could include in dictionary package's doinst.sh so they would be recognized when added to an existing LibreOffice installation. However, I have not gotten around to testing them and consequently have not sent them to Eric yet either.

Dictionary 'packages', in LibreOffice speak, are called bundled and are expected to be installed at the same time as the base install. After the initial install, extra dictionaries are expected to be installed via the extension manager as .oxt files.

Hey guys,

Thanks for your replies. I tried Phillip's suggestion and that still didn't seem to see the installed dictionaries. But Phillip did mention that he installed his by hand. this jogged my memory so I just went out to the LibreOffice's web site, downloaded the language extensions, and installed them just through Writer's Extension Manager. All is working now. Thanks both of you for your help. I'll mark this as solved.

Thanks,
Bob
