libreoffice 3.5.3 slowness

Hi all

I've installed the libreoffice 3.5.3 package from AlienBob's repository

I've tried editing some spreadsheet and it's impossible to use.

Every action, also the simplest like writing text in a cell or doing a CTRL-F to search something leads to a wait of about 5-6 seconds, while I can see soffice.bin using 100% of the CPU

I tried with an empty spreadsheet and the problem do NOT occurs.

The document is a multi-sheet ODS document, and it's pretty simple (contains invoices with few formulas and no graphic or strange formats). With AlienBob's libreoffice 3.4.x I was able to manage them without problems.

Do you have some suggestion to investigate about the slowness??

Or, better, do something has a link where I can download the package for latest libreoffice 3.4?

Thank you all

Best regards

Alessandro Barisone

that is odd
i just lastnight installed the current LibreOffice 3.5.3.2 (64 bit) on opensuse 12.1 (64 bit) New install
the very FIRST run IS slow ,BUT , after that it is WAY faster than 3.4.5 .

is your slack install an odd custom version or a normal everyday install
how much system ram ?
is this a VM install ?
or what ?

Same here with John. I also used 3.5.3 from AlienBob but it's running fine here
I used them daily and from my point of view, each release of libreoffice is getting faster and faster due to removal of dead code inheritted from openoffice

Barx,

I don't notice any slowness with 3.5.3 installed From Alien Bob's repository; it is responsive for me.

I've done some other tests. The problem happens only with about 20 files pretty identical (each one contains up to 100 sheets with similar content, in fact invoices)
No problem with other files.

My laptop specs:

- turion single core 2GHz
- 2 Gb RAM
- HDD 320Gb
- slackware current 32 bit

Working on thess files I get 100% CPU usage for some seconds, no ram usage peaks, no swap. Only an abnormal CPU load.
No problem at all with previous libreoffice (3.4)

I tried to move one sheet to a new file and the problem no longer occurs.

So I think that the reason of the problem is strictly related to the file content

But to copy the content of 20 files with an average of 50 sheets each means to copy about 1000 sheets -> crazy.

So i prefer to follow one of the following solutions:

- find a way to 'optimize' the content of every file to avoid useless cpu load
- find a way to copy with a single commmand every sheets of a file to another one (hoping that this will fix)
- download and reinstall latest libreoffice 3.4.x package (if I can find it)

Do you mind putting the files somewhere where it can be tested on other machines?

Sorry for the late reply, I was away

I have updated to libreoffice 3.5.4 and the problem was gone.

So ... thank you very much to AlienBob for the package update!

I think that the problem was caused by a strange interaction between my file and libreoffice 3.5.3 .. that was solved in 3.5.4

Thank you all for the help

Best regards

Alessandro
