libreoffice-3.4.3 from alien apps don't start
 

I installed AlienBob's LiO packages last week. Only Writer starts from the start menu or the splashh screen . All others look as tho they're starting but don't. I've uninstalled and reinstalled bvut no change. Anyone any ideas?

Hi, try executing libreoffice from a Konsole or xterm and copy/paste the errors here. Makes it much easier to figure out where the source of the problem lies.

If I start in a console like this :-bash-4.1# libreoffice --draw

I get the splash screen, the green progress bar fills then poof nothing starts and no error messages.(unless I'm looking in the wrong place) Thats from the launcher or the startcentre too

Note that writer, spadmin and extension manager all start fine and if I select a CSV file (for example) then calc will start and I assume that impress and draw would too but I have no files to test this.

in which system do you install the LibreOffice package? Slackware 13.37? Current?

This might or might not be related to the issue, but seeing your command line: why are you trying to run it as root?

If you're able to open files this issue is not a problem of missing libraries/dependencies.

Also open the task manager (if you're running KDE it's Ctrl+Esc) and see if libreoffice is running even if nothing appears to launch. Kill all the libreoffice processes and try again.

I'm trying to grasp at straws here, but to me it appears like some libreoffice related misconfiguration issue. One last thing would be to complete remove all libreoffice related configuration and try re-installing it.

Also, something else out of nowhere, but did/do you have previous installs of libreoffice or openoffice on your system? A while back, on one of my testing units I was having similar issues and ultimately it was resolved by removing all traces of a previous office install.

I'm running current and KDE-4.7.3

This was the one. I had some old bits and pieces lurking in the oddest places. Once I'd cleaned them out away it went. Hope I don't have to do this every upgrade.

I also used to run at root when I first started using Linux, and then I switched. I recommend against using the root account for anything but system administration but it's your system.

Anyway glad to see you've resolved the issue.
