libnet problems

I installed from source the libnet 0.10.11 libraries doing the following
cp makfiles/linux.mak port.mak
make
# checkinstall

then went to install snort and libnet-config went missing

Can someone tell me if I did something wrong

ok, I fetched the libnet slackpack and it had libnet-config and then recompiled the libnet source. Ok, but now when trying to install snort, the include works fine, but the lib doesn't work at all!

locate libnet output:
/usr/local/lib/libnet.a
/usr/local/include/libnet.h
/usr/include/libnet
/usr/include/libnet/libnet.h

bash-2.05b$ whereis libnet
libnet: /usr/src/libnet/libnet.tgz /usr/lib/libnet.a /usr/local/lib/libnet.a /usr/include/libnet /usr/include/libnet.h /usr/man/man3/libnet.3.gz /usr/share/man/man3/libnet.3.gz

What do you mean "doesn't work at all"?
Actual error output would be better to work with.

By that I mean when I run make in the snort source dir, it tells me it can't find the libriries to libnet even after I put the location of it from what I retrived above with the search.

Did you run ldconfig? Did you run "./configure --with-libnet=/some/dir"?
Btw, actual error output is usually appreciated by ppl trying to help.
