Angry libjpeg nightmare!!!!!!!!!!

My story starts two weeks ago when I tried to use a captcha php script only to find that I needed gd installed, which needs jpeg and png support, which needs zlib support, which needs, which needs, which needs. You get my drift.

I have spent countless hours trying to get PHP with gd support to work and all I've managed to do is screw up KDE, now it won't start because of this libjpeg problem.

I have searched forums, newsgroups, email lists, websites, etc., etc. and I have yet to find anyone that can offer even one tidbit of information on how to get this to work.

I have followed the instructions on the page below to the letter and still nothing. I have managed to get it compiled now and phpinfo() says everything is there, but it doesn't do anything.

http://tanksoftware.com/tutes/installingphp.html

Can someone, a child perhaps, give me some idea of what the problem is. I'll be here trying to figure out how to get KDE working again.

Thanks

B

What special thing did you need to do to get PHP + GD installed? Presumably you are using the PHP (>4.3.0) included GD.

You say "it doesn't do anything" but it's not clear what "it" is. I presume that you mean PHP is working as expected but that GD functions don't work?

In what way have you tested it?

What error message(s) are you getting?

I'm assuming you're using GD via a php webpage (via apache), or is it direct via the php app.

Try this ... http://www.nyphp.org/content/present...Dintro/gd2.php for some great tips and info.

I just spent 20 minutes typing a reply to you only to have this forum say I'm not logged in - of course losing everything I wrote.

At this point I give up.

Thanks for replying.

LOL.

Yes, I quickly learned to hit "remember me" before I logged in to LQ for this exact same reason. Don't give up yet, keep at it and it will work.
