/lib/cpp not found

I currently am using slackware 12.1

Recently I tried compiling a program from scratch (xchat 2.8.6) and a few other programs that just would not complete. I looked through all the previous forums involving this problem and all of their solutions did not help me. I have installed all gcc/g++ packages, kernal headers, pkgconfig, etc. I still get this error:

Code:
checking how to run the C++ preprocessor... /lib/cpp
configure: error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
See `config.log' for more details.
I then looked inside "config.log" and noticed this:
(counted things that i found)

Code:
1.
configure:6175: /lib/cpp conftest.cpp
cpp: error trying to exec 'cc1plus': execvp: No such file or directory
2.
configure:6070: g++ -E  conftest.cpp
In file included from conftest.cpp:20:
/usr/include/limits.h:125:26: no include path in which to search for limits.h
configure:6076: $? = 1
After that i then tried to find (find /lib/cpp) /lib/cpp. It showed, but, when i tried to cd into it it wouldn't let me. It said it didn't exist.

If anyone has any ideas, fixes, or information, it would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure you have all of the D/ package series installed.

Is there a way to download them all at once?

You should have them on your installation media. However this should download the D series packages and PGP sigantures to a directory I've called ~/slackware_12.2_D and install them :

Code:
mkdir ~/slackware_12.2_D
cd ~/slackware_12.2_D
wget -r -nd -A.tgz,.asc http://slackware.osuosl.org/slackware-12.2/slackware/d/
su -c "upgradepkg --install-new *.tgz"

bgeddy's correct that the development packages are on your installation media.

However, I think an easier way to download them all at once would be to use an ftp client.

I had the same error happen to me a few weeks ago when I was trying to compile a program on my Slackware 12.1 box. I had recently removed everything pertaining to the 2.6.24.5 kernel (eg.kernel-sources, kernel-headers, etc.). I did it because I compiled my own custom kernel and it seemed to work w/out any ill effects. Anyways, I downloaded the kernel-headers, kernel-source, and kernel-firmware from slackware-current and this solved my compile problem.

/lib/cpp is a symlink to /usr/bin/cpp on my 12.2 box.

I just checked all my /d packages and the slackware package website. I have all of the /d packages...
So i guess it's another problem.
