Lexmark: Slow Printing

I have a Lexmark Z53 USB printer. I am using CUPS. I downloaded and installed the foomatic database files and the Lexmark driver and database files. If I print at 300dpi it prints sorta fast, not as fast as it should, and it looks like crap. If I print at 600dpi, it looks great but it's really, really slow.

How can I speed up printing.

Yes, I have Googled my butt off. I am asking here because I am out of ideas.

Well, no one anywhere seems to know how to make this Lexmark work so I guess I am stuck with Windows until I can get an Epson or something.

I'll never buy a Lexmark again!
