latest patches break gaim???

I just installed the latest series of patches for Slackware 11, and after I did this, I noticed a number of problems trying to use gaim:

First, I am no longer able to log into my gtalk account.

Second, I can't use the built in gaim-encryption plugin any more.

I can only assume that this has something to do with the changes to gnupg, but I'm just not sure. Has anyone else noticed problems after upgrading?

The problem is in the new seamonkey package. I had to revert to the seamonkey-1.0.5 that is in Slackware 11.0 and now my gaim works again with secure Jabber protocol.

Cheers, Eric

If you wanted another perspective, this post might help:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...48#post2678048
which includes a link to
http://gaim.sourceforge.net/faq-ssl.php#q12

Basically suggesting that you add /usr/lib/firefox into /etc/ld.so.conf and run ldconfig. It worked for me, but Alien Bob's post is a better explaination as to why.

It is much easier.
When upgrading to the latest packages in the /patches directory of Slackware 11.0, it might go unnoticed (unless you read the ChangeLog.txt) that in fact a new package was added there. A mere
Code:
upgradepkg *.tgz
is not enough... you will also have to run
Code:
installpkg ./patches/packages/mozilla-nss-3.9.2-i486-1_slack11.0.tgz
This new mozilla-nss package contains the same libraries that Seamonkey (and Firefox) provide, only, these actually work with Gaim.
It just took a while to get the mozilla-nss package into Slackware (I created the package nearly 2 years ago when Pat removed Mozilla for a short while from the slackware-pre-10.2 tree)

Cheers, Eric
