Latest nmap (4.50) in current and its gui

I dont seem to be able to get the gui (zenmap) working at all. It says unable to import dbapi2.pysqlite2 or sqlite3. I cannot find such packages in the slackware repository, so is there something i am missing? Maybe i should go back to previous version...

rworkman 12-18-2007 02:08 PM

For now, yeah, previous version or don't bother with the gui.
Slackware doesn't include sqlite, so the python sqlite module isn't present.
I think you also need pygtk for that gui too.

You can install sqlite using slackbuild from http://slackbuilds.org/repository/12...raries/sqlite/ or search linuxpackages if you don't want to compile.

It is better either to add sqlite to Slackware officially or to remove xnmap. What for do we have a non working executable?

You are playing with current. There will be the odd glitch. Just backtrack to the previous version.

Since Pat wouldn't knowingly include a package that didn't work properly in a stable Slackware release, we can assume that the dependencies for zenmap are being considered for inclusion.

Or at the very least, the GUI for nmap won't be included in the stable release.

In either event, nothing is guaranteed to work in -current, so this is not indicative of the final product in any way.

Looks like we still have a non working executable here. I'm running 12.1 full install and I'm getting the same error. This definitely doesn't look too good. I am aware of the possibility to install sqlite, but nonetheless I somehow don't like the idea of including a program with unsatisfied dependencies into the distribution.

brooky9999 05-09-2008 10:07 AM

I'm having the same issue

I'm running nmap on Slackware 12.1 and also get dbapi2.pysqlite2 errors.

Is the cure to install sqlite3 ?

jong357 05-09-2008 11:13 AM

Yes. You also need the python module for it which ships in it's own source tarball. Here is what I do on my DIY build:

Installing sqlite and pysqlite should do it. I didn't try it tho.

digger95 05-10-2008 07:01 PM

Thanks. I had no idea what the program even was... but it bothered me that it didn't work :)

Are you blaming Slackware team? Blame for not including wxGTK and wxPython to fulfil BitTorrent requirements.

Blame the developers.

General Failure 05-11-2008 06:23 AM

I don't blame anyone here, and I don't care too much about bittorrent either because I use ktorrent. Aditionally, bittorrent is not part of a full install while zenmap is. It appears in the desktop menu after having done a full install and it just won't start up. That's what I'm trying to point out here.

I just don't think it should be like that in a release version. Either those two MB of additional software should be included or zenmap excluded from the package. Imagine what would happen in the public discussion if a windows version were released with a start menu entry that won't bring up a new window. Well, ok, windows brings a lot less programs after installation :D - but still, even if you install some 100 programs out of the box, they should be working afterwards.

That doesn't make any sense at all. It is the Slackware team's responsibility to make sure all dependencies are met in a full install, it has nothing to do with the software developer.

I'm surprised there's been no "official" response concerning this issue.... Yes, people can build their own packages but that's not to say that you should make them. Where's the beef? ;)

These are the "official" support forums, are they not? A half year of "heads up" and it's still broken.
