Latest Firefox update, current, tabs stay on top....
As the subject says, the tabs default to the top, I like them on the bottom, changing the position under the 'view' menu, or any of the relevant items in about:config puts them on the bottom, where I prefer them, but when I restart FF, they're back on top.
Google doesn't provide me with any fixes; is anyone else having the same issues and/or any suggestions or fixes? As an aside, I've tried other browsers (as recently as 2 weeks ago, another "broken" FF update had me trying out chrome for a few days) but I keep begrudgingly returning to FF, however, the tabs-on-top was the ONLY reason I passed on chrome.... cheers, |
I've always just gone to the 'View' menu, 'Toolbars', and unchecked the 'Tabs on Top' selection for new FF installs. On my home boxes, I did that several versions ago and it's remained unchecked the whole time. Just wondering, when you've done the same using about:config, does the checkmark in the menu remain or disappear afterwards?

I haven't had any issues with my FF updates and browser behavior. I'm running Slack 13.37 64bit. I have a feeling you may have a corrupted profile in FF. You might want to delete it and start with a fresh one. The directory I'm referring to is /home/<username>/.mozilla/firefox/<random_number-letter>.default.

I *believe* I've tried every possible combo of the view menu and the about:config options without success, but I'll revisit that aspect, just in case. @vtel57 Yeah, deleting that directory occurred to me, but I despise having to reconfigure addons, etc., so that will be my last resort (I'm hoping there might be a single file to vanquish....) Thank you both for your responses. cheers, |
Clear your cache directory within your profile. That's where I would start. And yes, I know what you mean about having to reconfigure everything. I run a very customized FF, so I hate it when I have to spend half a day getting a clean slate version to where I want it. I ALWAYS keep three most recent backups of my mozilla profiles... just in case. :)

I cleared the cache directory which didn't solve the issue, so I decided to start removing tab-related add-ons, the first being Tree-style tabs (which I didn't use, anyway) and it appears that it was the culprit, because the change(s) under the view and about:config stick.
Thankfully it wasn't Tab Mix Plus (which has nothing remotely similar in chrome). cheers, |
Funny you should mention that tree-style tabs addon. After I read here a little while ago, I went off on a tangent at the FF extensions site. I saw that addon you mention and thought it was pretty neat, but I don't need it, so no install. ;) Yes, Tab Mix Plus breakage or issues would cause me heartache also.
Glad you figured it out! Have FUN! :) ~Eric |
