Laptop does not power off! But it did before!!
 

This one is stupid.
After fiddling with the 2.6 kernel bundled with Slack 10 I found myself
with a few problems.

First, I lost X and sound, but i managed to get them working.

The stupid part came after, when I tried to shutdown the computer.
It does all the things he does, enters run level 0 or 6 and then it leaves me with the line:

INIT: No more processes to run in this run level.

And then, nothing.

All this because of the darn kernel??!!
The computer doesn't power off, restart, respond to keystrokes, NOTHING!
I just have to press the power button for a few seconds for it to power down.
What sould I do??!

command line?
 

Does it respond to opening a terminal window and entering things like

poweroff, reboot?

Build APM or ACPI support into the kernel?


Check the .config of your old (working) kernel
for which it uses, or boot the old kernel and browse
dmesg' output for which of them is being used.

use the bareacpi kernel from the slack 10 CD... it should work for you...

That's a 2.4 kernel though. The topic starter wants a 2.6.

Well dudes, After removing the packages from kernel 2.6 a
wondrous thing happened.

No modules loaded. None. Nada.
I've got the fastest loading Linux in history!
Too bad I lost the sound, power down a a few other thing I
haven't noticed yet.

There's a way to fuck up a system!
And I am 30 kilometres from my CDs!
