Lack of battery detection in Slackware 14.1

I installed slackware 14.1 (everything except xfce and a few x apps) but it doesn't detect that I have a battery (laptop).

At first I thought it was just a KDE problem but after looking around at how to check it on the command line it seems like it's a system wide problem rather than kde.

Code:
bash-4.2# upower -d
Device: /org/freedesktop/UPower/devices/line_power_ACAD
  native-path: /sys/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/device:00/ACPI0003:00/power_supply/ACAD
  power supply: yes
  updated: Tue Oct 7 16:51:48 2014 (2 seconds ago)
  has history: no
  has statistics: no
  line-power
    online: yes

Daemon:
  daemon-version: 0.9.17
  can-suspend: yes
  can-hibernate yes
  on-battery: no
  on-low-battery: no
  lid-is-closed: no
  lid-is-present: yes
  is-docked: no
If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful.

Just a thought about this:

Code:
  on-battery: no
What happens if you pull the plug?

quick google, i don't have a battery
what does
upower -i /org/freedesktop/UPower/devices/battery_BAT0
say ?
it gives me errors

also what does
acpitool -B
say ?
'cuz if it works, then it's a upower problem (or one of its dependencies, or its ever changing API)

I can't take this further at the moment. My hard drive just died on my new laptop (2 weeks old!).

Hi,

You should not base the value of a system on one system failure. If reports of repeated failures then I tend to investigate the issue before excluding anything.

OK, renistalled on the new laptop. This time with XFCE. Still thinks my laptop is plugged in all the time but this time adding pm-suspend to my sudoers file doesn't work (did the same as last time)

Still no luck. Does anyone have any idea? The laptop just thinks it's plugged in 24/7.

Have you tried building a newer kernel? There may just not be support for the hardware in the kernel used in 14.1 (or even in -current).

Updating to current worked but I would of liked to have been running stable.
