L 99 99 99 99 99

Staggered across my screen after installing Slackware 9.1 on Dell Latitude CPiA 366XT. There must be 10-15 rows of 99's across my screen and it won't boot. I created a primary partition 4.5Gb using the 3rd choice F (something) sorry I'm a newbie. And had a swap partition of 1.5Gb. I did the default lilo install and I'm completely lost. I've tried installing it twice and same results. I'm totally new to this Slackware distro. Any help would be appreciated. I pretty much did defaults throughout the install.

According to this thread it could be a hardware problem
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/37170

First I would backup /etc/lilo.conf

I would try uninstalling lilo
lilo -U

Then rerun with
/sbin/lilo

This error can mean several things. Basically, the second stage bootloader can't be found for some reason.

Did you write to the wrong place in the LILO setup (eg /dev/hda1 instead or /dev/hda, or accidentally overwriting a Windows boot record)?

Do you have the drive configured as "normal" in your BIOS when it should be LBR?

What's in your lilo.conf? Does it match fdisk -l?

thanks for the help guys, i really didn't understand it but its my quest to learn. Chose lilo to install in root the default location. Rebooted and bam it didn't work so i got pissed, threw in the first disk and booted up, typed in cfdisk and looked at my partitions. decided to make the first one Bootable lmao ingenius. Anyway I restarted it and much to my amazement the friggin thing booted. It hoses when my orinoco gold card is in the pcmcia slot but it seems most distros do. Only problem is how do i add a user through command line? I can only log on as root and it's all command line. I don't know how to start kde etc.... :newbie: Actually i figured it out adding the user but how do i get to the graphical part or is it all command line?

adduser = adds new user

xwmconfig = chose a GUI to start (KDE, Gnome, fluxbox, etc..)

startx = starts GUI

thanks for the help, i just looked it up. I guess I should've done that prior to begging. So far so good but I still can't get the orinico gold card to go, shows up on the bottom as pcmcia card and i can ping 127.0.0.1 Don't know where to configure it.

Either run `netconfig` (after su) or edit /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf with your favourite next editor

(It is far easier to run netconfig since it walks you through it)
