ksnapshot on Slackware-current mouse erratic

Does anyone have issues with drawing a rectangle in ksnapshot?

On my install I'm finding it quite difficult to get the rectangle precisely where I want it. I don't have this issue in Slackware-14.0

Could you expand the word "difficult" a little bit? Then it'll easier for others to figure reproduce the problem.

In ksnapshot When drawing the rectangle -

1.
I start at the top left hand corner;

2.
I then move the cursor to the bottom right hand corner.

On Slackware Current the rectangle follows the cursor slowly. I have to keep moving the cursor around the bottom right hand corner, of the rectangle I want, until the rectangle is precisely where I want it to be, i.e. the cursor position. This process can take upwards of 10 to 20 seconds.

On 14.0 the rectangle still follows the cursor slowly, always has done, but I have no difficulty in getting the bottom right hand corner, of the rectangle, precisely where I want it to be.

Ok, both abnormal.

Which hardware
Code:

/sbin/lspci | grep VGA
and which video driver
Code:

grep drv.so /var/log/Xorg.0.log
are you using?

This is what I have -

Code:

/sbin/lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RV100 QY [Radeon 7000/VE]

Code:

grep drv.so /var/log/Xorg.0.log
[    35.933] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/ati_drv.so
[    35.950] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.so
[    36.017] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/vesa_drv.so
[    36.049] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/modesetting_drv.so
[    39.248] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/evdev_drv.so

I seem to have got a handle on the erratic nature. i.e it's following the mouse to all the positions it was in whilst the left hand button is pressed. So if I release the button as soon as I reach the Bottom Right corner it does reach the cursor eventually albeit a bit slowly. Which is something I might live with if there's no obvious quick fix.

Ok, so the correct driver (radeon) was loaded for your card. Can you check in KDE System Settings that all the fantastic visual effects are switched off?

If the problem persists I think I can try with the same card to see how it works. As I remember I also have such a display card in my pile of retired electronics but it takes time to find it out.

I've tried toggling the CheckBox "enable desk top effects at startup" in System Settings -> Desktop Effects and the Rectangle still takes some time to get to where the cursor is.

In respect of the "erratic" nature I was seeing that was due to me keeping the button of the mouse down whilst waiting for the Rectangle to catch up - so that was my fault! - so now it's just slow.

In the great scheme of things It's not many screen captures that I need to do - so I can live with the slowness. Though I have observed that when I was capturing a set of 20+ screen captures for a document that for some of them the Rectangle grew very fast.

SO I don't think I would want to pursue this any further and just acknowledge it's a feature not a problem. It's interesting to note that nobody else has jumped in to say they've observed this feature.

Of course it could be that my equipment is so old, 10 year, that every every so often I'm going to come across an application where slowness looks puzzling.
