Unhappy Konqueror crashes in KDE 3.1

Has anyone found a solution to the konqueror crashing (as soon as it finishes displaying files and folders) in KDE 3.1?

So far I tried removing LD_BIND_NOW=true before kdeinit in the startkde file .. but that didn't help.

Or is that something that can only be fixed by waiting for KDE 3.1.1

If I recall, KDE 3.1 is the newest release. I would suspect there is some old config or file info from the old version tht is probably messing it up to cause the crashes. Look for something that might have old config values or cache files, etc. and remove them. Then retest. I am still running the stock KDE desktop for Slack 8.1. But I have seen many programs have similar problems after upgrading a system. Values change, and ranges change, the new program is not able to handle the old stuff so it just crashes or terminates.

Thanks for replying.

I removed all previous KDE packages before installing KDE 3.1, and the .kde* in my home dir, I also tried running kde with a newly created user, but still konqueror crashes.
This is most puzzling .. ahh well.

I had this problem as well. Open the Control Center and goto 'KDE Components->File Manager'

click the 'Previews' tab, and uncheck everything.

Worked for me. Why it happens i don't know.

Hey that worked .. thanks Bahamut Zer0!

Now I can try checking some of the preview options to see wich one is causing konqueror to crash ... I hope it's not a combination of 2 or more ... lol

it woks fine here if you open folders with a quickbrowser from the K menu or in the panel. i can't tell why... also it runs fine from a terminal. if you love extra terminals, trade in your "URL" shortcuts for application links that have "konqueror URL" for a command line, and set it to run in a terminal. then you can also watch mysterious error messages that *aren't* fatal... weird, but i'll try that preview thing too because I for one -do not- love extra terminals

haha the preview hack works, and of course i had to test that theory...

it's the most obvious and most useful preview type: file.
so if you uncheck file, the only one you may ever need, it runs.

I'll live until slack 9 comes out...
but i might do XF86 4.3.0 and kde3.1 from source, very fast in YOS
