I am using slackware current. I downloaded the upgraded package with swaret. I cannot change the menus with kmenuedit in kde 3.2. Saving the changes has no effect. I did not have this problem until I upgraded. Several other people have had a similar problem so it may be a bug in kde. Does anyone know a fix for this problem?
I've just recently started using KDE as my main WM (I was using GNOME before), so I'm not really sure how it works...however, I noticed the same (or at least a similar) thing. I was trying to make XBoard start up with less gargantuan proportions, and wanted the launcher in the KDE menu to pass the -size moderate parameter. This didn't work when I edited the launcher from the menu editor - XBoard still started up covering the whole screen, and another look at the XBoard launcher in the menu editor revealed that my changes hadn't been saved. Quite annoying.
Anyway, as the I-can't-live-with-myself-until-I've-made-it-work person I happen to be, I peeked around a bit in my home folder...and noticed the ~/.kde/share/applnk directory...and I found ../Games/Board/xboard.desktop. Peculiar. All I had to do was to add the desired parameters there, instead of through the menu editor, and it worked. I don't know if this is the solution to your problems, but you might give it a try.
I have the same problem (Slackware 9.1 and whatever KDE version came with it). The odd thing is that running SW (installed off the same CD-ROMs) under VMWare with a Win2000 host, the menu editing works fine.
More weirdness - got home and looked at the KDE menu, and now the changes are there. Hadn't switched off the PC or rebooted. Perhaps some process has to complete before the menu gets updated.
