KMail Has Gone Squirrelly in Slackware.
Slackware 12.2
KDE 3.5.10
KMail 1.9.10
I've noticed KMail is not a separate package in Slackware as it is
in some other Linux distributions and I would like to remove it
and re-install it.
It has gone squirrelly and by that I mean when I click on a message
in the sent folder the title, author, order of arrival, of the message changes to, "No Subject, Unknown, unknown," respectively,
and, of course, the body of the message is blank.
Is there anyway to correct this or a way to completely un-install KMail and re-install it?
kmail is in the kdepim package I believe. You can search the files in /var/log/packages for "kmail" to see which package lists this file.
To reinstall a package you could try using the "upgradepkg" command with the --reinstall option.
If the reinstall doesn't work, you might have to fix something in the kmail settings files (located in ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail). Just make sure to save a copy of these files before you do any changes.
I experienced a similar problem when I imported emails. Are you trying to import email from another client application?
In my case I saw the "unknowns" when I tried to simply copy and paste entire maildir folders. If I selected each mail with the mouse, the date suddenly appeared. When I used the import maildir feature then KMail imported the dates correctly. All in all, converting from Eudora to KMail was difficult. I had to write a shell script to fix a lot of problems importing email from Eudora. Take a look at the link and see whether any of the issues I experienced ring a bell.

Thank you Regis_n_bits and Woodsman for your suggestions.
I finally renamed ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail and started from scratch.
So far, so good.
Thanks, again.

It didn't take more than an hour for KMail to start causing video problems, so I've scratched KMail and gone to Thunderbird. I'll give KMail another try after a clean install of the next release of Slackware.

Well, I really prefer KMail so I finally un-installed the entire KDEPim
package, downloaded a fresh copy, and re-installed it.
So far, so good.
It would be nice if KMail was a separate package as it is in some distributions.
It would be even nicer if the KMail developers would get around to allowing the user to forward a HTML e-mail in its original form.
