Kernel Update from 2.4.29 to 2.6.18 on Slax10.1 Errors

Aim: Update to Kernel 2.6.18 from original Slax10.1's Kernel 2.4.29

Problem: After initiating command make, all is well until it reaches .tmp_vmlinux1

Location of Linux 2.6 Kernel source:

make menuconfig - is successful, config file created is lin26.config

Error after .tmp_vmlinux1:

/bin/sh: line 1: 4579 Killed ld -m elf_i386 -m elf _1386 -o .tmp_vmlinux1 -T arch/i386/kernel/ arch/i386/kernel/head.o arch/i386/kernel/init_task.o init/built-in.o --start-group user/built/-in.o arch/i386/kernel/built-in.o arch/i386/ blah blah lines and lines of built-in.o files in all sorts of places.

Think it might be missing modules...

Any ideas?
