kernel symbols have no "goo"

This thread is related to one I started in software, but I don't think it related to the specific application anymore. Maybe it's a Slackware thing???

When I compile 2.4.18 with netfilter enabled, I get odd results for my netfilter symbols: (from "cat /proc/ksyms")

I would expect, for example,

nf_hook_slow_R8ac77a9d,

but I get

nf_hook_slow_R__ver_nf_hook_slow.

All of the other kernel symbols (not related to netfilter) look to have good "goo". Has anyone else run into this problem. Or could someone try to compile the netfilter support and tell me if they see this occur. Perhaps it is a simple .config option combination that is causing this problem. If someone else is using Slack, 2.4.18, and netfilter, and you have good "goo", could you compare .config files with me? Thanks,

-Bob

If the question is in direct regard to a standard kernel, then I do not think it is, or can be, distribution specific.

The kernel source does contain it's own documentation under the Documentation directory of the source tree. Usually /usr/src/linux/Documentation. You might find some helpfull info there.

So, you're not using netfilter? Anyone else? Before I go introducing myself to the kernel maintainers with my own special bug, I'd like to do some basic sanity checking. If the moderator agrees that this is not a Slackware issue, maybe there is a more appropriate (kernel) forum that this thread should be moved to?
