I have to install 2.4.26 kernel source and development source packages from 3 and 4 disk , if a want to compile and bring my Ltmodem in life. This is my first time on Slackware 10 , is there any easy way to install all of them . Kernel source is big problem for me , i have read faqs files on cd and did not understand them in full.
Hi,
make menuinstall configures your kernel. You can select options for your kernel and choose modules and options for your kernel. You can get info on almost every option by choosing the <Help> button. Also, if you copied the config file from the Slack cd (maybe the kernel-source package already has this), run
Code:
make oldconfig
before running make menuconfig. That way, all standard Slackware options are selected.
Ok thx for the info . I will put my hands on kernel when i read that links and come back home. What about development packages i read some threads here about needing them also for modem compilation. Do i have to install all files from "D" folder or just some of them ? I will let you know if some problem stops me from kernel compilation Hope to hear more help then .
Hi,
You'll need most (read: all) the packages from the D set. These include gcc (the C compiler) make (the utility for making compiling eaiser), libc, etc etc.
