Kernel Panic "unsupported accessory features" with Linux 3.7.1 on my eeepc

Ooops! I thought I was sticking with Stable this go-round.
Seems I uncommented the slackpkg mirror in the wrong section.

I was expecting security updates for the Mozilla packages and such. I was delighted to be offered the latest GCC and a new kernel.

Problem is the new kernel won't boot. I quickly get a 'kernel panic' and a complaint about 'unsupported additional features' (I browsing the logs to find the specific message, but no luck yet).

I 'updated' the kernel packages back to 3.2.29, so I'm up and running again, but I would hate to think I can't run the newer kernel on this little box.

My guess is you can run a newer kernel all right. You just can't run that particular configuration of kernel. If you really want to go to 3.7.1, download the source, and build it. There's piles of ways of doing it. You get a smaller neater kernel with only the features you need but be prepared to lose a day fiddling with the .config.

I don't see why you would jump to 3.7.1. I would go with 3.4.x first.

I didn't choose the version, I just ran slackpkg upgrade-all...didn't realize I was using a 'current' mirror.

If you're running a distro stock kernel, this could be an issue you won't resolve by changing kernels.

In that case get rid of any "quiet" or "hidden" setting in grub/lilo to get all the ugly kernel messages up. Watch and see what happens, and note the two or three things it says just before the panic. We may be able to offer more guidance then.
