Kernel panic under 2.6.7 "VFS cannot load /dev/hda1 fs"

Just built a new box...
Loaded Slack 10 w/kernel 2.4.26 then did the 2.6.7 for disk 2.
During a 2.6.7 boot it freezes with...
Kernel Panic -VFS cannot load /dev/hda1 as root fs.

Boots fine under 2.4.26...

Anyone have any ideas???

Yep that did it... will have to "fix" the generic 2.6.7

Now just to get all the other stuff hacked in place

It is not very LFS style if you install kernel with package instead of compile it

True, But this box is the second only FULL install of Slack 10 I have done.
The former mobo that had occupied this case was a LFS style box as its remaining twin is (the P3v133 mobo). Slack only made up the base everything above a base console boot was built to each machine.
I had put lots of effort into the twins and one was just too much of a problem.
I have also found that installing a FULL vanilla install of Slack is very problematic and unruly... I will hack out what I need to correct that too.
This mobo K7v Dragon plus (SoYo) is another discard. A plant manager could not get Windors XP to install so he bought a new mobo and processor. He still could not get XP to install (incorrect jumper on the HD) I fixed and installed XP for this mobo and processor Athlon Thunderbird 1.1ghz.
Its only problem is it overheats during complies (stock heatsink/fan)
I got it out of the mobo closet and killed "KittyX" and builted this one. I plan to upgrade the processor and flash the bios.

Yep a full install and a generic disk kernel are not "LFS". But I still have "KittyX" on his drives loaded on this box too they just need fixin from the segmenting from the other mobo...
AND I NEVER run a vanilla box long
