Kernel Panic on Virtual Box Installation- it's driving me NUTS.

I've been trying to install slackware 13.37 on to virtual box for days now with no success. At first I thought it was just not compatible with the 64-bit, so I switched over to 32-bit. I was getting a little further, but I keep getting the error "Kernel Panic- not syncing: attempting to kill the idle task". If anyone has any suggestions, they'd be greatly appreciated.

Is your copy of Win7 64bit or 32bit?

When, exactly, do you get this error? On installation? On booting the installed OS? On booting the installation disc?

Most likely there is some setting in Virtual Box. Just try the defaults. Although, maybe your CPU doesn't support hardware virtualization...

My hardware virtualization is on, I run Win64, but I've tried installs on both Slackware 64-bit and 32-bit. The 32-bit will initialize, but gets the kernel error. The 64-bit wont do anything at all.

The error comes up about 1 minute into attempting to boot from the disk.

OK, you put linux and 2.6 64bit in the OS type?

At this point, I'd say it probably has something to do with the way you've configured the drives in the settings menu. Maybe it's set to AHCI and your PC doesn't like that for whatever reason. Usually ide is the most compatible.

Could you post screenshots of your configuration settings?

I'm about ready to throw in the towel. Here are the settings. Still getting the freaking error no matter how much I mess with them.

You should pick Linux Other 2.6.x Kernel 64 bit instead of Linux Other 2.6.x kernel
and you use Slackware 32 bit ISO when you put 64 on the label

Kay,

I would allocate more system memory if you have the ability to do so. 256MB isn't much but you're running a 64-bit system. 64-bit programs have a larger memory footprint too, so it'll actually hurt the system to run with that amount. I'd say if you can support it go with 1024MB (1 GB) of RAM minimum and tack on at least 16~64MB of video RAM as well so the framebuffer doesn't get too abused.

Make sure you also have enough swap partition space and have the hard drive sized out fully BEFORE installation.

What kernel do you use in your Slackware installation? Perhaps you have to make an initrd...
