Question kernel panic on slacware 11, kernel 2.6.17.10


I get this error when I boot up my kernel

Kernel panic - not syncing: I/O error reading memory image
any suggestions?

It seems the proper driver for your ide "controller" or root file syestem type is not available at boot. If you compiled a custom kernel I'd suggest you check your config file first. Once you defined this is the cause, you can create a RAM Disk image with the proper modules in order you don't need to re-compile your kernel.
Of course if you can boot your box...

nah, forget about it. it's an old box.

so, originally i was running 2.6.12.5 on slackware 10.1, so i upgraded everything to 11, and my udev didn't work. so i thought "maybe a new kernel will do"

but, it seems i didn't pos the whole error, it mentions something about exceeding hda2 which is my swap space.

anyway, i reverted to udev .71 on /extra and used good 'ol 2.6.12.5.

i'll get into it later. it's not that important. thanx for the tip though.
