Linux swap as first partition.
Linux partition as second and last partition.
You said nothing about your partitions. I knew that you have root and swap, nothing surprising to me.
Boot in liveCD and run as root:
Code:
fdisk -l
and post the output here.
Then mount your root partition like this:
Code:
mount /dev/sdXX /media
where sdXX is your root partition, it may be sda1 or sda2 or sdb1 or whatever else, depends on your partitions scheme (check fdisk output).
Once your root partition mounted, find "menu.lst" or "grub.cfg" file (it should be under /media/boot directory). When it found, run this command:
Code:
cat /media/boot/grub/menu.lst
or
Code:
cat /media/boot/grub/grub.cfg
and post it's output here
If you will get an error messages, post error as well.

menu.lst and grub.cfg belongs Grub bootloader.
Seems you have LILO installed. Though I do not use LILO for a long time, we might to try to find whats wrong.
Meanwhile may be some LILO expert will join us.
Well, lilo should use /etc/lilo.conf file.
What does

I select LILO option during installation.

Seems like LILO wasn't installed or was installed in wrong way.
Did you installed it during system installation?
There should be /etc/lilo.conf file.
I would try to reinstall lilo.
