Kernel panic after windows installation

I recently repartitioned/reinstalled win 98se and win 2k which reside on the first 2 partitions of my drive.

Did not touch my linux partitions. I have always booted Slack using a boot disk so I didn't think reinstalling windows would matter.

However, when I try to use my boot disk I get the following:
Quote:
FAT: bogus logical sector size 8954
FAT: bogus logical sector size 8954
request_module[nls_iso8859-1]: Root fs not mounted
Unable to load NLS charset iso8859-1
Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:08
Any help would be very appreciated. I had slack working so well. The idea of a reinstall is painful.

Use a rescue disk and try to mount your Linux partitions from it. Those errors are mostly about FAT, so your Linux filesystem may be OK.

hmm, I have always considered my boot disk as my rescue disk in linux. Did not know there was such a thing a rescue disk. I also have my installation disk.

I will do some searching on creating one but feel free to discuss its creation process

Well I figured it out after I mounted / from the installation CD. My /etc/fstab was was showing my swap partition as /.

I have no idea how that could have happened as I was reinstalling my Windows stuff. My boot disk still (and always has) says that /dev/hda8 is the difficult root. It worked before...i guess somehow my partition numbers got jumbled around...

Anyhow, thanks for the reply Mara. The rescue disk thing got me to thinking about using my installation disk to mount my partitions.
