Kernel file system modules not found

I recently installed lufs so I could mount my website files as a virtual filesystem on my hard drive. Works fine except that if I reboot it stops working and tells me that I have no lufs support module loaded or available in the kernel - which I have - /lib/modules/linux-***/kernel/fs/lufs/lufs.so. Fuse - another virtual file system program - has exactly the same problem.

If I uninstall and reinstall lufs it all works again. However, and this is interesting, if I uninstall and then reinstall using installpkg on the tgz file created by checkinstall it does not work again - only if I install using checkinstall (make install on the tarball). I guess maybe a path is being set which does not get reset on reboot. But surely /lib/modules is standard?

Anyone know what the problem is - Slack 9.1?

Does modprobing the module when it is not loaded by the kernel work? If so, then you just need to set the module to load at startup. Take a look at /etc/rc.d/rc.modules and /etc/rc.d/rc.local.

Hope this helps.

Modprobe lufs give the response " Floating point exception" , which I think is something rather unpleasant. Anyone know what causes it here?
