kernel compile while using floppy to boot?
ok, the next thing i wanna try is to compile my first kernel for slack...i've downloaded the 2.6.7.tar.bz2, but my question before i even attempt this is, will it work if i boot the system with a floppy? i don't use grub or lilo on slack, i boot it from the floppy...so...can i compile even though i use a floppy?

Do you have the kernel on the floppy or just a bootloader?

It doesn't make any difference where you boot from. You can compile just fine.
One suggestion for your first compile. use the standard bare.i config file without changing anything. This gives you a chance to see how the process goes with a successful compile. Then start playing with the config file and re-compile.

Then you just need to update it to point at the new kernel.
