Kernel 2.6.25 screws up my Nethack display
I downloaded Kernel 2.6.25 and compiled, etc,etc...
Anyway, using 2.6.25, my display in Nethack is completely screwed up. It looks fine using 2.6.22, and upgrading the kernel is the only change. If I regress to 2.6.22, Nethack is back to normal. Boot using 2.6.25, screwed up again. Anyone have any idea what might fix this? Some kernel option I need to enable or disable? TIA |
I am not sure. I probably wouldn't have downloaded the 2.6.25 kernel, since it is the initial .25 release. Maybe you should wait until 2.6.25.1 or 2.6.25.2. Or just download 2.6.24.5. I don't know anything about nethack display, but all I can suggest is try a slightly less 'bleeding edge' kernel, and also see if you can update nethack to a later version too (not bleeding edge though), to see if it jives with a more newer kernel.

What video card are you using?

Are your video drivers the ones that came with Slackware or did you have to install by hand? If the latter, you will have to reinstall them.

Tried 2.6.24.5, and that one also screws up my Nethack display.
I use the Nvida drivers, installed by hand. I have no other problems with 2.6.25 or 2.6.24.5, other than the display in Nethack. Everything works great otherwise. What an odd thing to get screwed up, but I am at a complete loss as to what is doing it. |
The nVdia drivers are a bit dodgy for for the 2.6.25 kernel.

Sorry my advice was less than helpful. Smedley appears to have you covered though. :) Dig |
are you using a custom kernel config or are you using the kernel config from slack-current 2.6.24.5 kernel package?
|
I've tried with a custom kernel, with the stock hugesmp kernel, with & without the nvidia drivers, and I've recompiled Nethack.
Nothing has worked so far. |
