kernel 2.6.11.11 boot hang

I'm running slackware -current with lilo. I used the old .config file so i know it works. it loads the kernel then the screen goes blank, only showing about 4 blue pixels at the top center of my laptop screen.

Did you upgrade from a 2.4 kernel? If so, this is a known common problem. Search the thread started by DaOne, the answer is in there.

DaOne's threads are:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...der=descending

Searching the thread "compiling ..." may seem a little daunting as there are hundreds of replies. The screen-blank part starts at post 16

Depends upon how you got the 2.6.11.11 kernel. Did you install
Pat's packages from /testing, or did you roll your own? If you got
the source and compiled your own kernel, you should read the
instructions Linus wrote in ./linux-2.6.11.11/README. And there
is a good quick little guide here, but I wouldn't do that last thing
with the System.map symlink in rc.local...not necessary. Otherwise,
you can build your kernel where and how Linus says without any
problems. You cannot use a 2.4 series .config for a 2.6 series kernel.
