Kernal question..

Hello,

I am new to this Linux systems. I know I probably should have started out with an easier distro, but wanted to dive head first into it :P. I've tried Suse and Mandrake in the past, and I was impressed with them.

Anyways here is my question
During the install, the setup asks me to install a kernal from a certain location, boot disk, cd etc.. per the set up guide I read I chose to use the one from the slackware cd. Well I was given a list of over a dozen different types to choose from..... How am I supposed to know which one is right for me?

My system is an AMD 1800 512 ram with Geforce 3 128 VC, 100 gig ide Hard drive.

I suggest you use the kernel chosen at boot time (if you pressed straight the Enter key then you loaded bare.i kernel) and therefor if you haven't had any problems at boot just Skip that step and keep the kernel already installed.

Welcome to LQ!

This talks about bootdisks, but it tells you about the kernel choices in Slackware.

The bare.i is the default and is probably the one you used during the install. However if you want your box to shutdown automatically you can choose bareacpi.i.
