by chance, are you running -current?

Some things are buggy currently, with the KDE update and new GCC.

Just a thought.

I have the same problem, and am using 10.1.

I just use GDM. It bothers me having to have so much of Gnome installed when I don't use it, but I've got loads of hard drive space, and until I get around to coming up with a more graceful solution, it'll do.

and you can't use XDM... why? (hehe... no need for gnome there.) Might want to look into WDM too.

XDM is fugly. It also doesn't support automatic logins like GDM... my desktop, at least, is configured to automatically log into my user account on first boot. I like my eye candy, and I'm lazy.

I'll worry about increased security when I need to, but for now, there's nobody I have to worry about, so no reason to force me to log in.

Ok, so you like you eyecandy, but use an autologin? What eyecandy is there to be had? You don't even see the DM... unless, that is, you just have a delay until login.

I do when I log out, such as when I need to do something as a different user, or when I log in remotely.
