KDE icons missing after panic

My computer panicked a few minutes ago (plugged in a questionable sata hard drive to check it; no question now), and after rebooting the KDE desktop only shows one row of icons at the top. If I look in the Desktop folder, all the files are there. F5 to refresh the desktop does nothing. This is fairly-current64 KDE 4.10.3. Any ideas?

Try to change your icons.

I sorta fixed it by exploiting this feature.
